Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Morning (Sunday, June 2, 2024)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 7:55 AM WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 29 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, no visual eruption was observed. The eruption of Mount Semeru is still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Semeru's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations from June 2, 2024, 00:00-06:00 WIB, showed 26 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 12-22 millimeters and durations of 77-135 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 rockfall quakes with amplitudes of 2-3 mm and durations of 45-56 seconds, and 7 emission quakes with amplitudes of 2-8 millimeters and durations of 40-68 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along the Besuk Kobokan river, up to 13 kilometers from the summit (eruption center). Outside this distance, the public should not engage in activities within 500 meters of the riverbanks (river margins) along the Besuk Kobokan river due to the potential for the expansion of pyroclastic flows and lava flows up to 17 kilometers from the summit.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 867 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has experienced the most eruptions, with 352 recorded events.
