Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Saturday, March 29, 2025)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 09:55 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 15 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 600 meters above the peak or 1,687 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray in color with moderate to thick intensity towards the southwest and west. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on March 29, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 235 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 33.64-129.08 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 34 millimeters, an S-P time of 12.37 seconds, and a duration of 69.45 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 1-5 millimeters, predominantly 3 millimeters.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,493 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,153 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 62 times.
