Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Monday, July 8, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (July 8, 2024) at 11:39 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 5 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the eruption was not visually observed. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations from July 8, 2024, 00:00-06:00 WITA, showed 3 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 14.8-47.3 millimeters and durations of 123-444 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 low-frequency earthquake with an amplitude of 5.9 millimeters and a duration of 10 seconds, and 6 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 3.7-5.1 millimeters and durations of 7-14 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the North-Northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the Northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,517 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (670 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 319 times.
