Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning, Ash Plume 400 Meters Above Peak

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Friday (September 5, 2025) at 06:44 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 5 times.

Reporting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 400 meters above the peak (1,487 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with thick intensity towards the northwest. Mount Dukono''s eruption was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Dukono''s activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 5, 2025, at 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 19 eruption/explosive earthquakes with amplitudes of 6-10 millimeters and durations of 33.24-65.38 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 34 millimeters, s-p of 28.04 seconds, and a duration of 87.49 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor earthquake with an amplitude of 1-4 millimeters, dominant at 2 millimeters.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities, climb, or approach Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,969 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,389 times), while Mount Dukono erupted 493 times.
