Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Early This Morning, Ash Height Around 500 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) at 02:45 WITA. In the past week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted twice.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height is around 500 meters above the peak (2,084 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray in color with moderate intensity towards the southwest and west. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 10.5 millimeters and a duration of 128.4 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on April 14, 2026 from 00:00-23:59 WITA showed 1 eruption/explosion earthquake with an amplitude of 14.8 millimeters and a duration of 119 seconds.

Then, 1 collapse earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 mm and a duration of 47 seconds, as well as 3 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-14.8 millimeters and durations of 33-55 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 4-kilometer radius of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption center.

In 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,454 volcanic eruptions/explosions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (784 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 22 times.
