Food Insecurity Prevalence in Tapin Reaches 4.1% in 2023

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Tapin Regency, South Kalimantan, was 4.1% in 2023.

This figure is down 0.74% from the previous year's 4.84%, while it has increased by 1.34% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Tapin Regency is lower than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of residents in Tapin Regency who consume food but whose energy needs are insufficient does not reach 4.1% of the total population.

Compared to 12 other regencies/cities in South Kalimantan Province, Tapin Regency ranks 5th in terms of PoU. The area with the lowest PoU (top ranking) is Tanah Bumbu Regency (2.31%), and the highest (last ranking) is Barito Kuala Regency (6.73%).
