Top 10 Countries with Best Gender Equality in the World 2023

Gender equality means that every individual, regardless of their sex, has the same rights, receives equal treatment, and enjoys balanced recognition in social, economic, and political life.

Every year, the World Economic Forum (WEF) measures the gender equality index in various countries, the results of which are presented in a report titled *Global Gender Gap Report*.

The WEF measures the Global Gender Gap Index (GGGI) based on four main components: economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment.

The WEF then applies a 0-1 scale score. A score of 0 indicates a very wide gender gap, while a score of 1 indicates the full achievement of equality.

To date, no country has achieved full gender equality. Only Iceland is closest, with a score of 0.912 in 2023.

For 14 consecutive years, Iceland has topped the list as the country with the highest gender equality score in the world.

Norway, another Nordic country, follows in second place with a score of 0.879, followed by Finland with a score of 0.863.

Next are Sweden and Germany, which have the same gender equality index score of 0.815.

Meanwhile, Indonesia ranks 87th out of 146 countries researched by the WEF, with a gender equality index score of 0.698.
