Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Sunday, March 2, 2025)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 09:17 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 4 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 1,900 meters above the peak (2,987 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the east. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on March 2, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 248 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 32.98-57.72 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 local tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 8 millimeters, an s-p time of 5.31 seconds, and a duration of 34.94 seconds; and 3 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 8-34 millimeters, s-p times of 14.05-50.08 seconds, and durations of 69.94-102.77 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,804 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (847 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 16 times.
