These Are the 10 Most Dangerous Cities in the World

The Citizen Council for Public Safety and Criminal Justice released its list of "50 Cities with the Highest Murder Rates in the World 2018" last March. The list was compiled based on the high number of homicides in these cities.

Tijuana, Mexico was identified as the most dangerous city, or the city with the highest murder rate in the world. The murder rate in the city reached 138.26 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Throughout last year, there were 2,640 homicides in the city, which has a population of 1.91 million.

Acapulco, Mexico ranked second on this list. The murder rate in the city reached 110.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In 2018, Acapulco had a population of 857,883 and 948 homicides. Caracas, Venezuela ranked third with a murder rate of 99.98 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Last year, there were 2,980 homicides in the city with a population of 2.98 million.

Of the 50 cities on the list of the world's most dangerous cities, 42 are located in Latin America. Four other cities are in the United States, three in South Africa, and one in Puerto Rico.
