Warning! Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Wednesday, April 2, 2025)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 06:46 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 5 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 1,000 meters above the peak (2,087 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on April 2, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 268 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 30.7-307.64 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 3 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 17-34 millimeters, S-P intervals of 18.4-32.98 seconds, and durations of 81.5-83.78 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 1-5 millimeters, predominantly 2 millimeters.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,558 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,192 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 68 times.
