71% of Indonesians Believe Israel is at Fault in the Conflict with Palestine

A Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) survey shows that the majority, or 88%, of Indonesian people are aware of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Of that number, 71% of respondents believe that Israel is at fault in the conflict with Palestine.

3% of respondents blamed Palestine. 5% of respondents aware of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict blamed both sides. Meanwhile, 21% of respondents said they didn't know or didn't answer.

According to SMRC Communications Director Ade Armando, the data shows that the majority of public perception aligns with the country's political stance on the Israeli-Palestinian dispute. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) previously ensured that Indonesia will continue to side with the Palestinian people.

He also strongly condemned the violence committed by Israeli forces against Palestinian civilians. Furthermore, Jokowi urged the UN Security Council to take immediate action regarding Israel's repeated violations.

The SMRC conducted a telephone survey of 1,201 respondents from May 25-28, 2021. The margin of error in this survey is approximately 2.9% with a 95% confidence level.
