Databoks released a research report titled “Energy Sector Amid Geopolitical Pressures: Social Media Listening Report 2026” on Wednesday (April 22, 2026).
In the report, Databoks analyzes the emotional tone of conversations among Indonesian netizens on X, Instagram, and TikTok regarding the energy crisis following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East.
On February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran. Following this, global oil prices surged amid restrictions on traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s key energy trade routes.
The emotional tone of Indonesian netizens’ conversations on the energy crisis is dominated by concern, accounting for 27.98%.
Media coverage highlights public concerns over potential supply shortages and rising global energy prices due to geopolitical tensions.
“Coverage also emphasizes fears of spillover effects on the domestic economy, including inflationary pressures and currency depreciation,” Databoks stated in its report.
Meanwhile, positive support accounts for 13.41%. This sentiment reflects support for government policies aimed at maintaining energy stability and optimism toward more sustainable solutions.
“On the other hand, the public is proactively shifting to renewable energy and adopting energy-saving measures as a positive response to the situation,” Databoks added.
In total, 17 distinct emotions were identified in Indonesian netizens’ social media conversations about the energy crisis, as shown in the chart.
Databoks collected data from February 28 to April 20, 2026, using crawling and scraping methods, along with a keyword-based approach related to the energy crisis and oil price dynamics.
A relevance filtering process was then applied. The filtered dataset includes 24,327 TikTok posts, 12,308 posts on X, and 6,776 posts on Instagram.
In the analysis stage, the study focuses on substantive narrative content—defined as content exceeding 200 characters—meaning not all relevant data were included.
