Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Wednesday, February 19, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 12:00 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 45 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 600 meters above the peak (1,925 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the east. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 27 millimeters and a duration of 81 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on February 19, 2025, from 00:00 to 06:00 WIT showed 25 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 9-28 millimeters and durations of 25-59 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 36 tremor events with amplitudes of 2-7 millimeters and durations of 20-29 seconds, and 2 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2 millimeters and durations of 47-78 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral extension towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,393 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (692 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 607 times.
