The 2022 Global Terrorism Index (GTI) report shows that Afghanistan was the country most affected by terrorism in 2022, scoring the highest at 9.109 points.
According to the GTI, there were 837 terrorist incidents in Afghanistan in 2021. Deaths from terrorist attacks in Afghanistan increased by 14% year-on-year (YoY) in 2021, reaching 1,426.
Furthermore, these terrorist attacks in Afghanistan resulted in 2,199 injuries.
"The deadliest attack in 2021 occurred when the ISIS terrorist group detonated two suicide bombs at Kabul International Airport in Afghanistan, resulting in 170 deaths and over 200 injuries. This was the deadliest attack in Afghanistan since 2007," the GTI report states.
Meanwhile, Iraq ranked second with an index score of 8.511 points. Somalia and Burkina Faso followed in third and fourth place with scores of 8.398 and 8.270 points, respectively.
Syria was the fifth most affected country by terrorism in 2021, with a score of 8.250 points.

Indonesia ranked 24th on the 2022 global terrorism index score list, with a score of 5.5 points.
Today, Wednesday (December 7th), a suicide bombing occurred at the Astanaanyar Police Station in Bandung City, West Java, at approximately 08:20 WIB. Shortly afterward, residents who heard the explosion rushed out of buildings. Police are currently investigating and securing the blast site.
This research, released by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), calculates the GTI score based on four indicators: the number of incidents, deaths, injuries, and hostages caused by terrorist acts.
The GTI uses a scale ranging from 0 to 10. 0 indicates no impact from terrorism, while 10 represents the highest impact. The GTI analyzes the impact of terrorism in 163 countries, covering 99.7% of the world's population.
