Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Thursday, October 10, 2024)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 8:37 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 4 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column reached 1,000 meters above the peak or 2,325 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 191 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on October 10, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WIT showed 15 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 12-28 millimeters and durations of 43-83 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 13 emission quakes with amplitudes of 2-16 millimeters and durations of 14-60 seconds, and 6 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-8 millimeters and durations of 34-147 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral extension towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 4,395 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku has had the most eruptions, with 1,815.
