Complete Basic Immunization Coverage in Infants Aged 0-11 Months Below Target

Immunization is a public health effort proven to be the most cost-effective. Furthermore, immunization has a positive impact on achieving the health status of mothers and children in Indonesia.

Immunization protects not only individuals but also the community, providing herd immunity.

Unfortunately, many infants under one year old have not received complete basic immunization. Some infants have not received any immunization since birth. This impacts children's health, making them susceptible to dangerous diseases.

In Indonesia, every infant aged 0-11 months must receive complete basic immunization. The following vaccines are required for infants under one year old:

1 dose of Hepatitis B
1 dose of BCG
3 doses of DPT-HB-HiB
4 doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV)
1 dose of inactivated polio vaccine (IPV)
1 dose of Measles Rubella

The type of immunization and vaccination schedule are determined based on expert studies and epidemiological analysis of emerging diseases. For certain areas, based on epidemiological studies, disease burden analysis, and expert recommendations, additional immunizations are provided, namely Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) and Japanese Encephalitis.

The achievement of complete basic immunization for infants aged 0-11 months reached 84.2% in 2021. This figure increased from the previous 83.3%. However, this figure is still below the target of 93.6%, as shown in the graph.
