Most of Pekanbaru City's Population in 2023 is of Working Age

Based on 2023 data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), 738,220 or approximately 65.72% of Pekanbaru's population falls within the productive age group of 15-59 years. Children aged 0-14 years constitute 26.98% of the total population, or about 303,080 individuals, while 7.3% of the population is aged 60 and above.

Pekanbaru's population was recorded at 1.12 million as of December 2023. This figure represents an increase compared to June 2023 and December 2021. However, the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) over the past five years is lower, with a five-year growth rate recorded at 0.11%.

Compared to other regencies/cities in Riau province, Pekanbaru has the highest population. Nationally, considering all islands, it ranks sixth.
