Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Morning (Thursday, November 27, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Thursday (27/11/2025) at 09:41 AM Western Indonesian Time (WIB). In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 37 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

No visual eruption was observed. The eruption of Mount Semeru was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Semeru's activity level is at Level IV (Awas/Alert). Seismicity observations on November 27, 2025, from 00:00-06:00 AM WIB, showed 54 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 12-22 millimeters and earthquake durations of 85-149 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 rockfall earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-6 mm and durations of 37-70 seconds, and 3 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 8-11 millimeters s-p 16-27 seconds and durations of 49-60 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, as far as 20 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Beyond that distance, people should not engage in activities within 500 meters of the riverbanks (river borders) along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for being affected by the expansion of hot clouds and lava flows.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 7,075 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has erupted the most with 2,849 occurrences.
