Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, March 24, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 00:29 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 9 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 500 meters above the peak or 1,825 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the east. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 58 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on March 24, 2025, from 12:00 to 18:00 WIT showed 31 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 11-28 millimeters and durations of 23-69 seconds.

Then, there were 30 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 3-8 millimeters and durations of 18-56 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 117 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,372 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,087 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 935 times.
