According to the Indonesian Teachers' Union Federation (FSGI), there were 30 cases of bullying in schools throughout 2023. This figure is an increase from the previous year's 21 cases.
80% of bullying cases in 2023 occurred in schools under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), and 20% in schools under the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
"These thirty cases are those that have been reported to the authorities and are being processed," said Retno Listyarti, Chair of the FSGI Expert Council, as reported by Kompas.com on Sunday (31/12/2023).
Of the 30 bullying cases in 2023, 50% occurred at the junior high school/equivalent level, 30% at the elementary school/equivalent level, 10% at the senior high school/equivalent level, and 10% at the vocational high school/equivalent level.
Two of these cases resulted in fatalities: one at an elementary school (SDN) in Sukabumi Regency, and one at a junior high school (MTs) in Blitar.
Retno also noted one bullying case at the elementary school level that is suspected to be a contributing factor in a student's suicide. "Although the causes of suicide are never singular," she stated.
The 2023 bullying cases were spread across 12 provinces encompassing 24 regencies/cities, with the following details:

This case became widely discussed because one of the perpetrators is allegedly the child of a celebrity.
