Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Friday, September 26, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday (26/9/2025) at 17:43 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 61 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach 1,200 meters above the peak (2,784 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate to thick intensity towards the west and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22.2 millimeters and a duration of 79 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 26, 2025, from 12:00-18:00 WITA showed 6 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 11-22.2 millimeters and durations of 44-79 seconds.

Subsequently, 1 exhalation earthquake with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 42 seconds, and 4 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 5.1-7.4 millimeters and durations of 104-243 seconds occurred.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a 7-kilometer sectoral distance from the Southwest-Northeast direction from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,357 volcano eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,499 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 623 times.
