Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted again in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, June 30, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at 02.07 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 27 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed at approximately 700 meters above the peak (2,284 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest and west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 37 millimeters and a duration of 358 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on June 30, 2024, from 18.00 to 23.59 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 10.3 millimeters and a duration of 497 seconds.

Then, 1 puffing earthquake with an amplitude of 14.7 millimeters and a duration of 37 seconds, and 5 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 3.7-10.3 millimeters and durations of 8-12 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the northwest, north, and south-southeast directions from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,340 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (583 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 268 times.
