Indonesian National Police Arrest 866 Online Gambling Suspects by the End of August 2023

The Indonesian National Police's Cyber Crime Directorate (Dittipidsiber) arrested 866 online gambling suspects between 2022 and August 30, 2023.

Details show that 760 online gambling suspects were arrested in 2022. From the beginning of the year to August 30, 2023, there were 106 arrests.

"Regarding the number of suspects, in 2022, we secured 760 online gambling suspects, while in 2023, there were 106," said the Director of Cyber Crimes (Dirtipidsiber) of the Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim), Brigadier General Adi Vivid Agustiadi Bachtiar, as quoted by Kompas.com on Thursday (August 31, 2023).

Vivid stated that the arrests of online gambling suspects this year are still being processed, both at the Dittipidsiber and regional police levels.

However, Vivid could not specify how many online gambling kingpins were among the hundreds of suspects arrested. He explained that this data hasn't been categorized yet.

"We don't have complete data on which ones are kingpins, but we will categorize that later," said Vivid.

The latest data shows that Bareskrim arrested a total of 31 online gambling suspects in Denpasar, Bali, on August 18, 2023. These suspects were part of an online gambling syndicate operating through various websites, including Hotel Slot 88, Autocuan 88, Jaya Slot 28, Oscar 28, and Sera 77.

From these arrests, Vivid said that investigators seized various pieces of evidence, including 240 personal computers (PCs) or laptops and 253 mobile phones of various brands.

There was also evidence in the form of 58 bank accounts from several banks such as BCA, BRI, Mandiri, and Permata. This case was uncovered through cyber patrols conducted by Dittipidsiber Bareskrim and Cyber Directorates throughout the regional police forces.
