Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Wednesday, October 2, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 7:40 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 13 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 375 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on October 2, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WITA showed 4 instances of tremor with amplitudes of 2.9-3.7 millimeters and durations of 31-53 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.2-3.7 millimeters and durations of 161-209 seconds, and 6 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-5.9 millimeters and durations of 8-13 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 4,272 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,794 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 732 times.
