Ministry of Environment and Forestry Finds 704 Hotspots in Indonesia, Most in East Nusa Tenggara (Friday, August 15, 2025)

Based on the forest and land fire monitoring system SiPongi of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), monitoring in the last 24 hours shows that 704 hotspots were detected in Indonesia. This number of hotspots decreased by 547 points compared to the previous period.

The data is the result of Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA satellite imagery accessed on Friday (August 15, 2025) at 11:54 AM WIB. Of the 704 detected hotspots, 11 points had a high confidence level, 605 points were in the medium scale, and 88 points were in the low scale.

Hotspot confidence levels are divided into 3 scales. The low scale ranges from 0 - 29, the medium scale from 30 - 79, and the high scale from 80 - 100. The higher the hotspot confidence level, the higher the likelihood of forest and land fires occurring in a particular area.

The most detected hotspots were in East Nusa Tenggara with 277 points. West Nusa Tenggara ranked second with 94 hotspots. North Sumatra was in third position with 60 hotspots.

As many as 53 hotspots were detected in Central Sulawesi, followed by East Java with 52 hotspots, and South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi each had 52 and 32 detected hotspots.

A hotspot is a coordinate point of an area that has a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of clustered hotspots in an area indicates the occurrence of forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellite detection is still the most effective for monitoring forest and land fires over a wide area.
