Prevalence of Food Consumption Inadequacy in Dumai City Reaches 11.31% in 2024

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Dumai City, Riau, was 11.31% in 2024.

This figure decreased by 1.11% from the previous year''s 12.42%, while over the last 5 years, it increased by 2.99%.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.27% in 2024, meaning Dumai City''s PoU is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy required for a normal, active, and healthy life.

This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that less than 11.31% of the total population in Dumai City consumes food but has insufficient energy intake.

Compared to 11 other regencies/cities in Riau Province, Dumai City''s PoU ranks 9th. The region with the lowest PoU (top rank) is Rokan Hulu Regency (9.27%), and the highest (last rank) is Indragiri Hilir Regency (13.23%).
