The General Chairperson of the General Election Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy'ari, stated that 668 polling stations (TPS) are potentially going to hold supplementary voting in the 2024 General Election.
"Until 6 PM WIB on February 14th, there are 668 TPS in 5 regencies/cities across 4 provinces that are potentially going to hold supplementary voting," said Hasyim in an online press conference on Wednesday (February 14th, 2024).
Of that number, the highest is in Puncak Jaya Regency, Central Papua Province, with 456 TPS requiring supplementary voting.
Next, there are 108 TPS in Demak Regency, Central Java, affected by floods, causing the voting process to be postponed. Hasyim also mentioned that the floods inundated 10 villages in Demak.
This is followed by 92 TPS in Paniai Regency, Central Papua, experiencing voting equipment damage, and 8 TPS in Batam City, Riau Islands, experiencing a ballot shortage.
Lastly, there are 4 TPS in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Mountains, that were unable to conduct voting due to security disturbances.
Hasyim also stated that the decision to re-conduct the voting is in accordance with Article 110 Paragraph 1 of KPU Regulation Number 25 of 2023 concerning Voting and Vote Counting in the General Election, which reads:
“In the event that riots, security disturbances, natural disasters, or other disturbances occur in some or all of the electoral districts, resulting in the inability to conduct all stages of voting and/or vote counting, supplementary voting and/or vote counting shall be conducted.”
On Wednesday, February 14th, 2024, Indonesian citizens participated in the voting process for the presidential and vice-presidential election, as well as for members of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Regional Representatives Council (DPRD), and the Regional Representative Council (DPD).
