The Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Gunung Kidul Increased by 2.65% in the Last 5 Years

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, was 14.67% in 2023.

This figure is down 8.18% from the previous year's 22.85%, while it has increased by 2.65% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Gunung Kidul Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of residents in Gunung Kidul Regency who consume food but whose energy needs are unmet does not reach 14.67% of the total population.

Compared to four other regencies/cities in Yogyakarta Special Region, Gunung Kidul Regency has the highest PoU. The area with the lowest PoU (highest ranking) is Sleman Regency (6.64%).
