Mount Marapi Erupted on Monday Afternoon, Status is Alert

Mount Marapi in West Sumatra erupted again on Monday (15/12/2025) at 16:54 WIB. In the last week, Mount Marapi has only erupted once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 38 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Marapi's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on December 15, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIB showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 9.8 millimeters and a duration of 61 seconds.

Additionally, there were 6 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.3-4.8 millimeters and durations of 28-69 seconds, and 5 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 0.5-2.3 millimeters and durations of 129-284 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Marapi and climbers/visitors/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of activity (Verbeek Crater) of Mount Marapi.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 7,353 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (3,028 times), while Mount Marapi erupted 120 times.
