Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts on Tuesday Afternoon, Status is Alert

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) at 14:48 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 5 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height is around 400 meters above the peak or 1,984 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray in color with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 5.9 millimeters and a duration of 101 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on April 14, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 1 eruption/explosion earthquake with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 60 seconds.

Then, 5 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-22.2 millimeters and durations of 31-37 seconds, as well as 10 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.9-7.4 millimeters and durations of 67-170 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 4-kilometer radius of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption center.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,467 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (790 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 25 times.
