Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Saturday, December 28, 2024)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 9:07 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 34 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 53 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on December 28, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WIT showed 15 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 18-28 millimeters and durations of 32-79 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 17 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2-16 millimeters and durations of 25-55 seconds, and 2 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-5 millimeters and durations of 108-204 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia recorded 6,149 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions with 2,528.
