Food Insecurity Prevalence in Central Buton Reaches 17.56% in 2023

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Buton Tengah Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, reached 17.56% in 2023.

This figure is up 1.78% from the previous year's 15.78%, and has increased by 6.26% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Buton Tengah Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes insufficient food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of residents in Buton Tengah Regency who consume food but lack sufficient energy intake does not reach 17.56% of the total population.
