Money Transfer, a global money transfer service provider, has just released its list of the world's most tourist-dense cities in 2023.
To compile this ranking, Money Transfer used international arrival data from Euromonitor studies. Additionally, the team gathered population data and figures from the most visited countries according to the World Population Review.
This data was then used to calculate an estimated number of tourists per resident in each city worldwide.
As a result, Phuket, Thailand, ranks first as the city with the highest tourist density this year. The estimated number of tourists is 118.5 tourists per resident.
The report mentions that millions of tourists fly to Phuket to continue their journeys to nearby beaches and islands.
"Therefore, although this city is very popular, not many tourists stay in the city for a long time," wrote the Money Transfer team in their report.
Besides Phuket, two other cities in Thailand are listed as being densely populated with tourists: Pattaya, with 98.7 tourists per resident, and Krabi, with 72.2 tourists per resident.
"Thailand is a popular destination not only because of its natural beauty and well-developed tourism, but also because it offers excellent value for money," explained the Money Transfer team.
The complete list of the 10 most tourist-dense cities in the world in 2023 according to Money Transfer is as follows:
