Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Evening (Saturday, September 7, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 3:12 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 27 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed at approximately 600 meters above the peak (2,184 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 8.8 millimeters and a duration of 219 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on September 7, 2024, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WITA showed 3 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 8.1-11 millimeters and durations of 88-431 seconds.

Then, there were 2 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 3.7-4.4 millimeters and durations of 40-48 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 3.7 millimeters and a duration of 248 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 3,554 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,423 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 613 times.
