114 Doctors Died from Covid-19 in July, Highest During Pandemic

The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) Mitigation Team reported that 114 doctors died from COVID-19 by July 17, 2021, a 123.5% increase from the previous month's 51 deaths. This month's COVID-19 related doctor deaths are the highest during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of 545 doctors have died during the pandemic. Four provinces with the highest number of doctor deaths are located on the island of Java: East Java (110), Jakarta (84), Central Java (82), and West Java (78).

The lowest number of COVID-19 related doctor deaths were reported in North Maluku, West Nusa Tenggara, Southeast Sulawesi, Gorontalo, and Papua, with one death reported in each province.

Doctors are among the healthcare heroes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, protection is needed to prevent risks during their work.

Furthermore, the public needs to be aware of the potential for COVID-19 transmission and adhere to health protocols, including wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility are also crucial.
