Warning! Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Morning (Wednesday, April 2, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 08:34 WIB (Western Indonesian Time). In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 41 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed at approximately None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 23 millimeters and a duration of 141 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Semeru's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 2, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIB, showed 62 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10-23 millimeters and durations of 55-230 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 12 tremors with amplitudes of 3-7 millimeters and durations of 40-96 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 15 millimeters and a duration of 231 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, up to 8 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Outside this distance, the public should not engage in activities within 500 meters of the riverbank (river buffer zone) along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for the expansion of pyroclastic flows and lahars up to 13 kilometers from the peak.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,560 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has experienced the most eruptions, with 1,193 recorded events.
