Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning, Volcanic Ash Height Around 1,000 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (24/8/2025) at 09:44 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 22 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 1,000 meters above the peak or 2,584 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 103 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on August 24, 2025, at 00:00-06:00 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 153 seconds.

Subsequently, 10 exhalation earthquakes with an amplitude of 2.2-4.4 millimeters and a duration of 34-60 seconds, and 5 low-frequency earthquakes with an amplitude of 2.2-4.4 millimeters and a duration of 24-27 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 6-kilometer radius from the center of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,769 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,305 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 478 times.
