A hotspot denotes a coordinate point with higher surface temperature than surrounding areas; it is not a direct count of fire incidents.
However, concentrated clusters of hotspots indicate active forest/land fire activity. Satellite-detected hotspot data remains the most effective method for large-scale wildfire monitoring.
