Indonesia's Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) Detects 79 Hotspots Across the Country, Most in Banten (Tuesday, June 25, 2024)

Based on the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry's (KLHK) SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system, the last 24-hour monitoring shows 79 hotspots detected in Indonesia. This is a decrease of 89 hotspots compared to the previous period.

This data is the result of satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA accessed on Tuesday (25/6/2024) at 16.26 WIB. Of the 79 hotspots detected, 1 has a high confidence level, 77 are medium, and 1 is low.

The hotspot confidence level is divided into 3 scales: low (0-29), medium (30-79), and high (80-100). The higher the confidence level, the higher the likelihood of a forest and land fire in that area.

Hotspots were most numerous in Banten (14), followed by East Java (14) and East Nusa Tenggara (14).

Ten hotspots were detected in Central Java, followed by North Maluku (7), Riau (7), and West Nusa Tenggara (5).

A hotspot is a coordinate point in an area with a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of hotspots clustered in one area indicates forest and land fires. This means that satellite remote sensing hotspot data remains the most effective method for monitoring forest and land fires over large areas.
