Prevalence of Food Consumption Inadequacy in Agam Decreased by 0.62% in the Last Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, was 9.24% in 2024.

This figure decreased by 0.62% from the previous year''s 9.86%, while in the last 5 years, it increased by 3.75%.

Indonesia''s average PoU was 8.27% in 2024. This means that the PoU in Agam Regency is higher than the national average.

The National Food Agency (Bapanas) defines PoU as a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy required for a normal, active, and healthy life.

This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that less than 9.24% of the population in Agam Regency consumes food but has insufficient energy requirements.

Compared to 18 other regencies/cities in West Sumatra Province, Agam Regency''s PoU ranks 17th. The region with the lowest PoU (top rank) is Padang Panjang City (5.33%), and the highest (last rank) is South Solok Regency (10.95%).
