Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning, Eruption Height 500 Meters Above the Peak

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 09:59 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 17 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 500 meters above the peak (1,825 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the southeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 45 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on February 11, 2025, from 00:00 to 06:00 WIT showed 15 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 23-28 millimeters and durations of 47-72 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 21 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2-17 millimeters and durations of 19-52 seconds, and 9 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-9 millimeters and durations of 36-107 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,167 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java experienced the most eruptions (607 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 487 times.
