Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Early This Morning (Wednesday, April 16, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 03:52 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 27 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach 300 meters above the peak (1,625 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 59 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 16, 2025, from 18:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 22 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 11-28 millimeters and durations of 25-70 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 48 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 2-17 millimeters and durations of 14-67 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 14 millimeters and a duration of 76 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,857 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,305 eruptions), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,118 times.
