Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon (Monday, March 3, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 1:09 PM WITA. This marks the second eruption in the past week.

According to information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash plume reached a height of 1,500 meters above the summit (3,084 meters above sea level).

The ash plume was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 37 millimeters and a duration of 65 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki's alert level is at Level III (Siaga) or Alert. Observations of seismic activity from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WITA on March 3, 2025, showed 7 instances of tremor with amplitudes of 3.7-7.4 millimeters and durations of 25-69 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 7.4 millimeters and durations of 59-110 seconds, and 1 local tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 4.4 millimeters, an S-P interval of 7.3 seconds, and a duration of 21 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists to refrain from any activity within a 5-kilometer radius of the eruption center and within a 6-kilometer radius in the southwest-north-northeast sector.

In 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,848 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java experienced the most eruptions (864 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 140 times.
