Spatially, Pontianak Barat sub-district has the largest population in Pontianak City, at 146,700. It is followed by Pontianak Utara and Pontianak Kota sub-districts with populations of 143,200 and 123,030 respectively.

Pontianak Timur sub-district has a population of 105,790. Pontianak Selatan has 90,840 inhabitants, while Pontianak Tenggara has 49,130.

Pontianak Selatan sub-district is the most densely populated area in Pontianak City, with a population density of 5,499 people per square kilometer (km²). Pontianak Utara sub-district has the lowest population density, at 3,462 people/km².
