Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Thursday, August 8, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 08:35 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 13 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 158 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on August 8, 2024, from 00:00 to 06:00 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 5.9 millimeters and a duration of 539 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 puffing earthquakes with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 17-23 seconds, and 7 shallow volcanic earthquakes with an amplitude of 5.1-5.9 millimeters and a duration of 9-11 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the North-Northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the Northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,504 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (856 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 466 times.
