BPS: Life Expectancy in West Nusa Tenggara Reaches 67.47 Years in 2023

Life expectancy (LE) in West Nusa Tenggara reached 67.47 years in 2023.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the LE of West Nusa Tenggara's population increased by 0.4 years (0.6%) compared to the 2022 LE of 67.07 years.

Meanwhile, in 2020 and 2021, the LE reached 66.51 and 66.69 years, respectively.

The LE of West Nusa Tenggara's population tends to increase every year. In the last 5 years, the province's LE has increased by 1.6 years (2.43%).

BPS defines LE at birth as the average estimated number of years a person can live from birth.

LE represents the degree of health of a community, calculated from the results of population censuses and surveys.

LE is also one of the indicators of the Human Development Index (HDI) to measure the quality of life of the population in a region.

Low LE in certain areas must be followed by health development programs, environmental health, adequate nutrition and calories, and poverty eradication.
