Mount Ibu Erupts Again Early This Morning (Saturday, February 8, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 03.01 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 36 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 73 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on February 8, 2025, from 00.00 to 23.59 WIT showed 68 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 12-28 millimeters and durations of 43-107 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 49 puffing quakes with amplitudes of 2-17 millimeters and durations of 14-60 seconds, and 14 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-16 millimeters and durations of 22-191 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,102 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (566 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 466 times.
