Mount Marapi Erupts Again Early This Morning (Monday, February 23, 2026)

Mount Marapi in West Sumatra erupted again on Monday (February 23, 2026) at 02:18 WIB. In the past week, Mount Marapi has erupted only once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height is about None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

No eruption visuals were observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 11.7 millimeters and a duration of 25 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Marapi's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on February 23, 2026, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIB showed 2 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 3.9-30.3 millimeters and durations of 23-41 seconds.

Then, 6 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 0.8-1.8 millimeters and durations of 25-42 seconds, as well as 12 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 1-2.9 millimeters and durations of 65-228 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Marapi and climbers/visitors/tourists not to enter or carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius of Mount Marapi's activity center (Verbeek Crater).

In 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 731 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (384 times) while Mount Marapi has erupted 22 times.
