Mount Semeru Erupts Again Early This Morning (Monday, October 6, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Monday (6/10/2025) at 04:43 AM WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru only erupted once.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 400 meters above the peak or 4,076 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22 millimeters and a duration of 138 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Semeru is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on October 6, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIB showed 94 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 10-23 millimeters and durations of 40-202 seconds.

Subsequently, there was 1 rockfall earthquake with an amplitude of 5 mm and a duration of 66 seconds, and 4 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-6 millimeters and durations of 37-95 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeastern sector along Besuk Kobokan, as far as 8 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Beyond this distance, the public should not engage in activities within 500 meters from the riverbanks (river border) along Besuk Kobokan, as there is a potential for expansion of pyroclastic flows and lava flows up to 13 kilometers from the peak.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,545 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions, with 2,562 recorded.
