The State of Scams in Indonesia 2025 report released by the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) shows that 35% of adult respondents in Indonesia have experienced scams in the last 12 months.

"Each scam victim in Indonesia experienced an average of 2.2 scams (during that period)," GASA wrote in its report.

Based on platforms, WhatsApp is the most frequently used application for scam activities in Indonesia, accounting for 85% of attempted scams.

Telegram and Facebook followed, with proportions of 40% and 37% respectively.

GASA also found that investment scams were the most common type experienced by Indonesians, with a percentage reaching 63%.

Other prevalent forms of scams include online shopping scams (62%), fake fundraising (55%), and unexpected money scams (55%).

GASA conducted a survey of 1,000 respondents aged 18 and above in Indonesia, which was then narrowed down to 360 respondents who admitted to having experienced scams in the last 12 months.

Generally, respondents consisted of 50% men and 50% women. By age group, Gen X respondents (45-60 years old) accounted for 35%, millennials (29-44 years old) 34%, Gen Z (18-28 years old) 24%, and baby boomers (61-70 years old) 6%.

Data collection was carried out online from February 26 to March 14, 2025.
